5:46 pm
we have had enough of those to last us a lifetime right. so what the heck is a micro burst we will talk about that in a moment but weather service estimated this had 80-mile per hour, westerly winds tore through an area, 3 miles south of fredericksburg, flemming street, lafayette and route one a roof came off a gym there were seven injuries, no fatalities the roof was thrown on to a home next door and other builds in the industrial area had roofing damage a very intense burst of wind you look at that and thing how can that not be a tornado but it was a micro burst. another explanation what a micro burst is, cold air descending from a storm falling rapidly almost the storm is collapsing, on that spot. so, rather than rotating it is just dropping like a big heavy brick. the air hits the ground, and then it starts rolling out as it does that it come presses the wind and beginning to speed up so you can get these micro
5:47 pm
burst winds reaching between 60 and 80 miles per hour or higher we saw that with the duration on june 29th winds exceeded 80 miles per hour in many areas and this is what the damage looks like and why the national weather service went down and looked at it cold air descendthen damage is in the fan pattern again rolls out and takes everything down but what you are seeing is almost everything going eat inner the same direction -- eat inner the same direction or more of a fan as opposed to rotational damage we would see with a tornado. that is important for insurance purposepeople need to know what happened. we are not going to see any micro bursts for awhile the air is settling down our temperature now 86 degrees, you know, compare this with the triple digit heat we had, and also the excessive humidity our dew point 59 degrees during the worst of the heat wave it was around 65 to 70, still warm up there in fredericksburg. we are not going to completely ditch humidity we have an east wind that is a moist direction
5:48 pm
but we don't have the big trigger for the showers and thunderstorms that is the front that went down to our south yesterday, separating really hot air, from less hot air, i would certainly not call 86 cool, but in comparison, it does feel so much bert that is 15 degrees of relief we needed still mighty hot out in the west that is where the heat will build as the east begins to settle down a bit. we need that break. feast your eyes on this temperature trend our average high is 89 degrees, i think today's high was 86, and so, for the first time since june 26th folks we have temperatures running below average, and it looks like that will continue all week. it is also somewhat unsettled we will not have full sunshine each day we have a couple showers and storms wanted you to see on satellite and radar here storms cluster right around where that boundary is and later this week the boundary may wobble farther north when that happens we will have a focus on more showers and storms which by the way we need them too because it is terribly dry in this area as
5:49 pm
you can see by looking out your window, we have a couple light showers or sprinkles moving by, the sun is out, up to our north, but the temperatures have stayed a little below average, because of the clouds and check this out, overnight temperatures some 60s upper 60s to low 70s we will call that mild and maybe just maybe a slight chance of a shower overnight, and tomorrow we could pop a thunder storm here and there closer to the mountains that might be doable or down south, closer to the boundary temperatures as you can see each day below average a couple showers spotty showers wednesday i think we will probably be storm free thursday increase chance of showers friday. >> okay. >> thanks sue. >> >> this is little league game, in georgia, look closely you see two dads going after each other, throwing blows after the game. one man asked the other to turn down the music he was playing,
